Supporting local charities

Over £45,000 raised for charity

Last years Open Day was a huge success raising over £45,000 in charity money. The money has been used to help good causes including Racing Welfare and the National Horseracing Museum. Racing Welfare provides help for the stud, stable and support staff of British Horseracing, supporting over 800 people each year. The National Horseracing Museum is located on Newmarket High Street. Open to the public, it contains a complete collection of records and memorabilia involved in the sport of horse racing from its Royal origins to modern heroes. Exhibits include the history of horse racing, horse racing in Britain, trophies, paintings of famous horses, trainers and jockeys.

Put Saturday and Sunday, 19th & 20th September in your diaries!

Looking forward to a majestic 2015

We are pleased to confirm that this year we are expanding to a two day event, taking place on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th September.  Newmarket trainers will, once again, open their doors to the public in the morning, providing a unique insight into the day to day running of some of the world’s  most successful racing stables.  In addition to this fantastic opportunity, there will be a fun-filled program of afternoon activities and entertainment suitable for the whole family at the Rowley Mile Racecourse.  As in previous years, the event will be held in order to raise funds for three worthy local charities.

After three successful years as Chairman of the Event, Julian Richmond-Watson, has sadly stepped aside and Sara Cumani, wife of top Newmarket based racehorse trainer Luca Cumani, has accepted the unenviable challenge of taking the Newmarket Open Weekend to the next level.  She said “the committee would like to thank Julian for all his hard work and commitment to making the Newmarket Open Weekend a terrific success since it’s return in 2012.  The aim now for the committee is to ensure the event continually progresses year after year.  By working alongside Newmarket Racecourses and Discover Newmarket we hope the Open Day will become an enjoyable fun filled weekend for the town, visitors and racing enthusiasts alike.

Her Majesty The Queen’s horse to canter at The Betfair Newmarket Open Day

On Sunday 21st September Newmarket hosts its third Betfair Newmarket Open Day. The Charity event, which has been a phenomenal success in showcasing the country’s finest racing talents to the public, will kick off at 9am with a star studded series of equine athletes exercising on the Warren Hill Gallops. This year Her Majesty The Queen’s horse Estimate, winner of the Ascot Gold Cup in 2013 and most recently the Doncaster Cup, will join the line-up. During her appearance her trainer Sir Michael Stoute will be interviewed by Racing UK’s Oli Bell. Detailed commentary throughout provides an invaluable insight into the daily work regimes of these fine athletes. The trainers yards will then be open from 9.30am until 12.30pm.

The Open Day is full of new delights this year star mare Ouija Board, mother of this year’s dual Derby winner Australia, will be on show and parading at Stanley House Stud between 10.30am and midday.
